5th Grade Puberty Lesson Information

Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s),
As part of the Grade 5 Science and Health curriculum, students will learn about human development and puberty on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
What Students Will Learn:
- Puberty Basics: When your body begins to grow and change.
- What Causes Puberty: Hormones are released when the pituitary gland signals the ovaries in females or the testes in males.
- Changes During Puberty: Physical and emotional changes.
- Reproductive Development: Male changes and the female menstrual cycle are normal, healthy processes.
- Self-Care: Hygiene, healthy eating, exercise, sleep, and talking with trusted adults.
Instruction Details:
- Students will be taught by gender: Mr. Jarrod Chapman will teach the lesson to male students, and Ms. Jenessa Woodrich will teach the lesson to female students.
- Presentations include teacher instruction and a slideshow.
